INDIGOFERRA

Methods of obtaining

Indigo is the original vat dye that was traditionally obtained from plants, but is now also synthetically produced. Synthetic indigo contains some component include Aniline, sulphur, sodium hydroxide, hydrosulphate, formaldehyde, which can be harmful to both humans, through inhalation, and the environment where they are discharged after dyeing. It is extracted from the leaves of the Indigofera tinctoria plant, which is known for its herbal and medicinal properties. Synonymous with the color blue, Indigo is also known as Indigo Blue. The Bio Indigo® dye produces a deep blue color on natural fibers such as wool, silk, and cotton.

Production Process

A strict quality control process is followed for the production of high quality powder and pigment products. The process begins with quality control testing of raw materials to ensure only the best materials are used. Next, the raw materials are ground to a fine consistency before being extracted in water. The extract undergoes evaporation and drying before undergoing another round of grinding. Batch mixing is then carried out to ensure a uniform blend of materials. Quality control testing is performed again to ensure the final product meets global standards. The product is then packed and supplied to the customers. We are proud to offer products available in both powder and pigment form as a range of options to choose from.

Dyeing Process

Natural fibres don’t have enough affinity to natural dyes. Therefore, a pre-treatment called “mordanting” should be done to increase the affinity of the fibres. It is also known as cationization. This process is the most crucial part because even dyeing mostly depends on even cationization of the fabric.

After mordanting and rinsing the fabric, the next stage is dyeing bath. During dyeing, dosage sequence and time should be followed carefully to have evenly dyed fabric.

The soaping step is then performed to remove any residual dyes off the fabric, improving both dry and wet rubbing fastness. It is an important step to be able to have good fastness results. The soap is also special and dedicated for natural dyes.

By following this meticulous dyeing process, we create high quality and sustainable textiles that meet the needs of our customers.
